The Milltown Historical Society Museum
The Milltown Historical Society was formed in 1968. The two homes on South Main Street serve as our meeting space, and as a museum to display collections of memories to tell the story of life in Milltown. The Museum is the building closest to the street. Displays there highlight 19th century life, a furnished living room, dining room and kitchen are on the ground floor, and a period school room and general store are on the second floor. The basement level holds Civil War relics, medical equipment of Drs. Forney and Friedenthal, Mr. Lown’s model of early Milltown, and a dollhouse handmade by Dick McDowell.

The rear building is called the Annex, and has a Michelin display, a child’s nursery room, and a sewing room. That is just a small fraction of what you can see if you tour the museums, though. Call Barbara Wright at 732 841 5920 to arrange for a visit. Here is a video of Jo Baker Coles showing off the Museum treasures in 1987. The collection has grown quite a bit since then, and we focus our displays more on Milltown history than was done in the 1980’s.
